CINCINNATIA — The Cincinnati men’s golf team hosts the Bearcat Invitational at Coldstream Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, the program’s first since 2019.

“It’s always a great opportunity to showcase Coldstream and our home facility,” head coach Doug Martin said. “It’s Cincinnati’s first-rate course and anywhere in the country.”

UC will send the same lineup as the Badger Invitational, which opens the season: Sam Jean, Ty Gingerich, William McDonald, Wyatt Plattner and Rylan Wotherspoon. Cole Harris and Ryan Ford will also compete individually.

While Gingerich wore the redshirt for the 2019-20 season, Jean was in the lineup when the tournament was last held from September 30 through October. 1 of that season. Jean tied for 39e with a 7-over 220, while Harris also 21 . ended upst as an individual. His 70 in the second round ultimately marked a season low from his 18 rounds.

On the other side of the event, McDonald was playing for Arkansas at the time and had his best career in the Bearcat Invitational, finishing 16the with a par 213 (69-69-75) to help the Razorbacks into second.

Cincinnati’s first fall tournament was marred a bit by early weather that made for a 36-hole event. UC finished sixth out of 18 teams and jumped from 11th after the opener. Jean finished third after matching a career low 66 on his final lap.

“With college golf and no matter how competitive it is, the fewer holes, the tighter the field is,” Martin said. “It’s hard to get a divorce. I was happy with sixth. I think we finish another 18 better. It was a good way to start in that field of 18 teams and finishing sixth is a pretty solid week. overall there were some positives to build on.”

The teams participating in the Bearcat Invitational are Louisville, Kentucky, Rutgers, UNC Greensboro, Memphis, Lamar, Ball State, Illinois State, Miami (Ohio), Santa Clara, Xavier and Sam Houston State.
