CHARLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — Additional security protocols and operational policies begin Friday at SCarowinds, following an incident at the park last weekend.

Rumors of a shooting in the park led to injuries as people clambered to the exits, with minors reportedly being the main cause of the confusion.

As a result, a Chaperone policy is in effect every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening of the SCarowinds event.

Under chaperone policy, all general park guests who are 17 years of age or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years of age to be admitted to the park during SCarowinds event hours.

The chaperone must present a valid government issued photo ID with date of birth upon ticket entry. One chaperone may accompany no more than four guests aged 17 or under per day.

Escorts must accompany their party when entering, remain in the park during their visit and be available by telephone during their stay.

Guests 17 years or younger found in the park unaccompanied by a chaperone will be ejected.
