You used to have two choices for hair care. There were cheap drugstore products filled with silicones and fillers and expensive salon products approved by your hairstylist. That is no longer the case. Now healthy hair products are available at drugstores and major chain stores without costing half your salary. Arkive Headcare is the latest you must try from British hairstylist Adam Reed.
So why “head care” and not just hair care? Well, Reed has always been open about this journey to mental health, so he started creating a line of science-backed ingredients and “feel-good scents” for a more sensory experience in the shower. The 10 initial products are for all hair types, something I wasn’t sure about at first, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results. (More on that later.) It’s all about nourishing the locks for your healthiest hair and using styling products for extra volume, texture and definition.

Let’s go to the smells. Each product contains one of Arkive’s two signature scents. Future Bloom has top notes of mandarin, rhubarb and currant, a heart of white flowers and a base of vanilla, tea rose and white musk. It’s floral and cozy. On the other hand, No One Elsie is an uplifting fragrance with top notes of tomato leaf and rhubarb, a heart of honeysuckle and currant and a base of palo santo and vetiver.

I was a little worried that the smells would overwhelm me in the shower, but they’re actually not overpowering at all. Both scents smell wonderful and just lingered lightly on my hair. I also wasn’t sure if the shampoo and conditioner would be moisturizing enough for my dry, over-processed hair, but hey, I was wrong again. My hair felt smooth right after the shower and dried with much less frizz. (I used The Prologue Hair Primer to protect the strands from heat.)
The Future Youth Treatment Mask is especially nice if you need some extra moisture.
The Future Youth Treatment Mask $22
The best part? The most expensive products are $22, so it might be a little easier to try different products in the line. They’re all out now, so go get them at Space NK in Bloomingdales.
